It took us an awfully long time to decide how we wanted Simon's headstone to look.
We knew that we wanted a green-coloured stone because green was Simon's favourite colour. We also wanted an image of Jesus and a little boy. We looked around for many, many months before we found the right colour stone. Finally in January '99 we found an ideal stone, but we still had to decide upon the exact words and type of lettering we wanted to use. We wanted something really, really unique for such a special and precious young man. The pressure of knowing that you have to get the wording exactly right, or live with your mistakes for the rest of time, is awesome. It turned into a race against time because the stone had to come from India where it was quarried. We were told it was going to take at least twelve weeks before the stone was even in England and then it would take another two weeks to engrave and polish. The only problem was that we would have liked the stone erected in time for the anniversary of Simon's passing and that was just twelve weeks away from the time we placed the order. I decided to put my trust in God and the Angels, I firmly believe that if something is meant to be then it will be. We waited patiently and our faith and the many prayers of our friends were answered when, just one week before the first anniversary of Simon's passing, the headstone was erected. We were so pleased when it turned out to be everything we ever hoped for and as unique as Simon himself. If you would like to read the original poem from which we took the verse that we had engraved upon the headstone, please follow the link to the poem below. A beautiful and very talented friend gave me permission to use this snowglobe. I think it is adorable and bears a very touching message. Thank you so much Kim!
